Exploring Pula

Today was our "look, we're tourists" day. After a long sleep, an unfortunately-necessary internet session, a stop at the [unfortunately closed] bike rental shack, we made our way back into the historic city of Pula from our resort at Verudela. Cobbling together the numbers from the city of Pula, another free map and our old ADAC guide book from the library, we saw almost every important sight. We've just finished nibbling on bread, cheese, olives, grapes and wine on our terrace. Fantastic!

The best preserved Roman Amphitheatre in the world

Matt's second Istrian steak in two days. Two large slices of chicken with cheese and bacon in between, and naturally, fries on the side. Mmmmm.

The temple of Augustus, today also housing Birgit

The Golden Gate... around 2000 years old

Nearby, James Joyce taught English

The Istrians like their French cars. Renaults, Peugeots and Citroens everywhere. On display here, a Renault 4. Oh, yes, and in the background the Roman Twin Gate, dating from the mid 2nd century...

The (smaller) Roman theatre

The city museum, housed in the castle bizarrely currently has an exhibition on retro computing. Here is Commodore's Laptop - the SX64.
